The ceiling lighting installation, designed by LAM in collaboration with The Lab Saigon for the Bake Flagship project, functioned as both a lighting system and an artistic centerpiece. Using metal mesh, it is shaped into layered, wave-like forms that evoke softness while maintaining its industrial character. When light passes through the mesh, it produces dynamic lighting effects, adding depth and a sense of movement to the space.
The design brief was clear: the cross-section of BAKES’s croissant became the main inspiration for the bar ceiling installation developed by The Lab Saigon and LAM. This concise concept provided a strong starting point for LAM to develop models, study materials, and test different approaches. Metal mesh came in many types, each with different structural and visual properties. To achieve a material with stable structure, sufficient flexibility, appropriate openness, good interaction with light, as well as safety and hygiene standards, multiple experiments were required to identify the most suitable mesh. Fabrication and installation techniques were also carefully calculated to ensure safety and aesthetic quality within a functioning commercial space. Behind the simple appearance of the final installation lay a series of detailed technical considerations and custom-designed connection components.
