Boat

Location: HO CHI MINH CITY.  VIETNAM

An art installation for Blank Lounge Landmark

The silhouette of the boat carried a recognizable, figurative quality, almost as if it were guiding us into moments of reverie.  LAM aimed to materialize a boat that felt light, graceful, and suspended in space. This sense of lightness appeared in its form, material effects, structure, and connections, from the internal framework to the external shape. Whether seen from far or near, from below or above, from outside or inside, each position revealed different characteristics of the piece.

Constructed from thin cables and aluminum segments, the structure was connected through flexible joints, enabling easy transport and quick assembly. At the same time, it allowed the boat structure to remain flexible and gently sway with the wind when the doors opened. Instead of avoiding the effect of wind, LAM intentionally used it as a natural interactive element of the work. Light also played an important role in giving the piece a different presence at night. It resembled boats gliding along the Saigon River in the evening. The boat reflected on the glass of the building, making it appear as if it was floating on the bright, shimmering stream of the city’s night lights.
