Boat

“The boats drift leisurely on the river or swiftly glide over the ocean waves during golden sunsets… On quiet nights by the sea, under a starry sky, there are moments when the boat seems to float adrift in the endless space of some distant universe. The silhouette of the boat carries a figurative quality that evokes memories, while also representing a journey that takes us into fleeting dreams. LAM hopes to symbolize a boat that feels light, graceful, and suspended in space—light in its form, material effects, structure, and connections, from the internal framework to the external shape. The visual experience, whether viewed from afar, up close, from below, above, outside, or inside, should reveal its unique characteristics.”

“The technique is assembled using thin cables threaded through aluminum tube sections, allowing the entire structure to be flexibly connected. This not only facilitates compact packing for transportation and quick installation but also gives the boat structure flexibility and fluidity, enabling it to gently sway with the wind when the doors are opened. Instead of worrying about the wind, this time LAM intentionally ‘borrows’ the wind as part of the interaction in the art installation!

Lighting is always an essential element in giving the art installation its full appearance at night. Much like boats gliding on the Saigon River at night, illuminated by the many colors of the city, the installation also takes on a vivid nighttime identity. In certain positions, the boat’s reflection in the building’s glass facade makes it appear as though it’s floating on the bright, shimmering lights of the city at night.”
