The “Floating Letter” installation by Lam Weaving Spaces, in collaboration with SILAA Architects, presented at the “TIME SPACE EXISTENCE” exhibition in Venice in 2023, is a unique space blending architectural design with art installation. Inspired by the imagery of a “floating letter,” the installation evokes the natural movement of messages drifting on water. Transparent paper sheets are woven along flexible cables, forming a multidimensional screen. Visitors are invited to write messages or draw freely on these surfaces, creating an interactive web of messages. The use of transparent materials and delicate cables captures the essence of a “floating letter,” conveying a gentle yet emotionally resonant concept.
This space goes beyond being a static display; it encourages visitor engagement, fostering interaction between architecture and its audience. Natural light filters through the PVC sheets, enhancing the shimmering and ethereal qualities of the installation. By integrating both visual and tactile elements, “Floating Letter” delivers a message of sustainability and human connection through diversity, inviting the audience to reflect on a shared global experience.
“Inspired by the ancient method of sending messages with sealed letters inside bottles floating across oceans, the ‘Floating Letter’ space is designed as a small public space made of recycled wood, floating on water. It can drift along the Huong River in Hue.”
