The installation space in the event “Hồi hương,” created in collaboration between Lam Weaving Spaces and the curator Scentury Concept, presents a unique olfactory art experience. The artistic space is crafted from swirling, flowing PVC sheets, resembling gentle waves, creating a visually stunning effect. The arrangement of the PVC sheets, combined with soft, ambient lighting, forms an immersive, multi-layered environment that invites viewers to explore.
Each fold of the PVC material reflects light and symbolizes the flow of emotions and memories, encouraging the audience not only to see but also to feel the space through their sense of smell and touch. In the context of olfactory art, scents are carefully integrated with the spatial composition, turning the space into a convergence of visual, olfactory, and sensory experiences. Every corner of the installation is designed to evoke a sense of connection with nature and memories of home, providing a meditative and introspective atmosphere for those who engage with it.
“Scent and sound truly evoke memories. We see ourselves in the resonance of our sense of smell…” Reading the cheerful yet honest comments under the post, such as “… we didn’t go to see the exhibition, we went to ‘smell the exhibition,’” makes the experience all the more enjoyable. The actual experience of the exhibition and such perspectives helped LAM better understand the complexity and diversity of scents, which also serve as a connection to the familiarities of the past. The artwork created visualizes the ‘ambiguity’ and unpredictability of scent. LAM personified scent through their dreamy imagination after a conversation with Scentury Concept. The feeling and perception of scent—directionless, with no clear beginning or end, multicolored yet blended—form the distinctive traits of each fragrance!
