Rei Nguyễn’s solo exhibition.
The installation space in the “Pluviophile” event, curated by Lam Weaving Spaces in collaboration with Rei Nguyễn, offers a delicate and emotionally evocative experience. With translucent, soft-colored raindrops suspended mid-air, viewers can easily feel the gentle and pure essence of nature. The thin falling strings create an illusion of rain streaming down, while the transparent drops evoke the imagery of raindrops hitting the surface, forming gentle ripples.
The contrast between the dark space and the soft lighting from the floating objects accentuates the feeling of solitude and romance, characteristic of a rain lover. Every detail, from the hanging raindrops to the soft lighting and cascading strings, forms a small ecosystem, allowing viewers to step inside and immerse themselves in the poetic atmosphere. Through exploration and interaction with each object, participants not only appreciate the beauty of rain but also experience the quiet and contemplative side of their inner world.
This installation is a beautiful fusion of sensory and emotional experiences, inviting people to slow down and appreciate the serenity and subtle emotions inspired by rain.
“Pluviophile – The Rain Lover is the theme of this olfactory exhibition by Rei Nguyễn, a fragrance artist and founder of R Parfums. The image of rain, so characteristic of Saigon, serves as the inspiration for LAM to create a visual installation with a theme centered around rain. Rain engages all the senses—touch, taste, hearing, smell—which is perhaps why it is often associated with so many memories. Sometimes, the entire city seems to blur behind a veil of rain, with only vivid spots of urban color shining through. After the rain: puddles seem to ‘contain’ a whole small neighborhood, the reflection of the rain like a convex mirror offering a glimpse of vast space, or at times, we catch a mirage of ourselves in those tiny droplets of water.
The exhibition space is arranged to feel as if within a nighttime rainstorm in Saigon. There are private corners even within the ‘heavy rain’ where viewers can fully experience sensations engaging all their senses.”
An art fair space, combining exhibition displays with cultural exchange activities.
The installation space in the images, designed by Lam Weaving Spaces in collaboration with Lôcô Art Market, uses transparent plastic sheeting instead of fabric, offering a fresh and captivating visual experience. The thin and reflective nature of the plastic creates layered arrangements that shimmer as visitors move through the space. Each step causes the layers of plastic to sway gently, giving the impression that the space is alive and responsive to the audience’s movements.
Lighting plays a crucial role in this setup. Multiple light sources are arranged at different angles to reflect and refract through the plastic sheets, producing ever-shifting hues of color. These lighting effects range from soothing greenish blues to soft pink tones, transforming the space into a surreal environment. The lights do not just highlight the plastic but also create depth, making the space feel multi-layered and immersive.
The interplay of plastic sheeting and lighting creates a dynamic, ever-changing visual experience where the space is not static but constantly evolving with light and movement. The way light reflects and refracts through the plastic not only adds a shimmering quality but also gives the installation a sense of expansion, inviting visitors into a dreamlike world where each viewpoint offers new surprises and dimensions to explore.
