Sketch A Rose

Designed and Installed: LAM WEAVING SPACES & DOLBY TEAM
Location: DOLBY THEATRE. LOS ANGELES

The artwork took the form of a SKETCH A ROSE drawn in mid-air. The rose was reinterpreted through a system of twisted structures, carefully calculated, tested, fabricated, compactly packed, and transported before finally “blooming” in the United States. From sketches and models to prototyping and installation within a simulated environment, the team rehearsed each step to refine both execution and technical control. Steel mesh materials and components were fully prepared at the workshop. Fifteen compact packages traveled halfway across the world to unfold into a metal rose over 6 meters in diameter, weighing just 23 kilograms. Fifteen-meter-long strips, like ribbons, twisted and leaned against one another, suspended within the stage backdrop. The entire installation was carried out manually on site, in collaboration with Dolby’s technical team.
