LAM continued the journey from Workshops 1&2, where used materials were regenerated into new spatial forms. In this third iteration, materials that have already undergone two life cycles are once again “woven” into an entirely new structure. From large laminated paper surfaces in Workshop 1, to smaller panels in Workshop 2, the material was then cut into 10cm wide strips for this installation. These strips were joined into continuous lengths of up to 70m, then staggered and connected with rivets to form a new material system with the ability to fold, expand, contract, and respond elastically. These new physical properties opened up possibilities for flexible form-making, lightweight and simple structures, condensed geometries, and functional performance. The Weaving Ring, a large circular structure with a circumference of 60m, Ø17m, and a height ranging from 3 to 4.5m, was deployed as a conceptual boundary for the main hall. It organized circulation while creating an experiential space both inside and outside the ring.
