Workshop Space 1 “Sustainable Design For Modern Inhabitation” in the series of events preparing for the launch of the EVSDA award, organized by the EU Delegation in collaboration with ELLE Decoration Vietnam.
The event’s theme was sustainable design, with the opening workshop taking place in a distinctive space at S.Pace. In the roles of artwork creation and spatial design, LAM proposed a new structural experiment based on traditional dó paper, inspired by images of ripe rice fields in Vietnam. After surveying the actual status of S.Pace, LAM wanted to experiment on a large volume. The artwork was conceived as a “symbolic auditorium” in a spacious public environment, while also connecting the active floor levels. The new structure, composed of papier-mâché ceilings and walls, did not stand apart from the existing architecture but interacted with it, creating a layered relationship between the constructed “auditorium” and the pre-existing spatial condition. The ceiling was backlit to emphasize the papier-mâché technique and to produce a surface effect reminiscent of ripe rice fields.
