MINI LÔCÔ – Kho Xả by LÔCÔ Art Market

LAM once visited the Cham Brocade Weaving Village in Phan Rang – Thap Cham and was deeply impressed by the manual weaving process practiced there. The structure of the loom, the materials, the technique of tensioning warp threads, and the suspended weights together generate a horizontal – vertical layering that embodies technical precision in an inherently artistic manner. The weavers’ hands move swiftly and efficiently, without unnecessary gestures, demonstrating a sense of freedom and mastery over their familiar tools. From the arrangement of discrete colored threads, richly patterned brocade surfaces gradually emerge. The interaction between the loom and the artisan produces a spatial field marked by rhythm and movement, reflecting the artistic depth of traditional Cham weaving techniques. Inspired by this encounter, LAM proposes this installation as a rearticulation of the loom’s space at an enlarged scale. The installation constructs an experience in which space is perceived as being “woven” from oversized, multicolored strands of material. These materials are repurposed from previous events collected and archived by LAM; they are twisted and braided into coarse strands before being “woven” onto a tensioned cable system.
