The exhibition and award ceremony space for Ashui Awards 2023

The Pavilion “Dòng Sông,” designed by MIA Design Studio  for the Ashui Awards 2023, is a unique space where archi-tecture and nature merge harmoniously. The use of flowing white fabric stretched across thin steel frames creates a dynamic yet soft structure that mimics the fluidity of a river. The architects skillfully harnessed natural light, creating an airy and light-filled environment, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, including the blue sky and near-by trees. The open interior design allows for free movement and interaction among visitors, enhancing the sense of connection and fluidity. The simplicity of the design reflects the harmony between humans and nature, the balance between motion and stillness. This tranquil yet vibrant atmosphere makes the pavilion a contemplative space, inviting relaxation and mindfulness. Additionally, the pavilion functions as an artistic stage where exhibitions and events can take place, offering an immersive experience for those who participate, further highlighting the blend of art, nature, and architecture.

“By utilizing the initial size of the fabric combined with scaffolding borrowed from the surrounding area, natural gravity shaped soft curves that reached their highest point in the exhibition space and gradually descended towards the stage and audience. Beneath the continuously swaying white fabric in the wind, creating streaks of light, visitors can immerse themselves in the flow and gently lift the fabric to step into a different space. Ashui Pavilion 2023 carries the flow of culture and nature, taking visitors back to their childhood with images of Vietnamese children play-ing, bathing in streams, and rivers in rural villages. Within a short period, the project implemented an on-site construc-tion and assembly solution, with all materials dismantled for reuse, restoring the land to its original state.”

“After receiving the design sketches, LAM held day-and-night technical meetings with the construction contractor, Cop-pha Builders. To fully optimize the fabric’s features, effects, and efficiency, the supporting framework and construction details had to be meticulously calculated to ensure architectural aesthetics. As the design focused on guests directly interacting with the fabric, the chosen material needed to be soft enough, with neatly sewn edges to maintain a refined appearance. Full-width fabric was used to save cutting time, but fine edges were sewn to ensure durability, prevent fray-ing, and maintain cleanliness and neatness when guests lifted or touched the fabric. LAM expressed deep gratitude to each member of the team and the participating students, who worked smartly and diligently to achieve the necessary precision within a short timeframe!”

Background of fashion exhibition event at World Coffee Museum, Buon Ma Thuot, end of 2022

The installation “Waterfall” is a unique creation by Lam Weaving Spaces, showcased in the “Mindful Wear” exhibition by fashion brand Shinesium at the Coffee World Museum (BMT) in 2022. The installation is inspired by the image of a majestic waterfall, with light blue silk strips cas-cading from the ceiling down to the floor, evoking the feeling of flowing water. These fabric pieces are designed to flow naturally, their softness mimicking the fluid movement of water, yet maintaining a light and airy ambiance.

The surrounding rough concrete walls of the museum provide a stark contrast, highlighting the softness and ethereal quality of the fabric. Light streaming through high windows further enhances the shimmering effect of the space. This installation is not just a visual spectacle but also an inter-active experience where viewers can immerse themselves in a naturalistic environment within a modern architectural context. Through this, “Waterfall” conveys a message of harmony between fashion and nature, between stillness and motion, between tradition and modernity. It creates a peaceful, yet dynamic space that invites contemplation and emotional connection with the environment.
