Designed by MIA Design Studio for the Ashui Awards 2023, the “River” Pavilion was a unique space where architectural art and nature converge. It featured flowing white fabric strips stretched across a slender steel framework, creating an open interior that encouraged visitor interaction. The minimalist yet sophisticated design reflected the connection between humans and nature, fostering a tranquil atmosphere.

To maximize the fabric’s aesthetic and functional impact, the load-bearing frame and construction details were meticulously calculated. Since the design encourages direct interaction, the material had to be exceptionally soft with finely finished edges for a clean look. Raw-width fabric was used for efficiency, with reinforced hems to prevent fraying. Ashui Pavilion 2023 evokes cultural and natural currents, bringing visitors back to childhood memories of Vietnamese children playing and bathing in rural rivers. Built within a short timeframe, the project applied an on-site assembly method, and all materials were dismantled afterward for reuse, restoring the site to its original condition.
