The ability to occupy a space quickly and withdraw just as neatly is one of the most interesting characteristics of event spaces built with fabric. Light, flexible, and easily adaptable, fabric is among the materials that allow space to transform most dramatically within a short time. In many events that LAM worked on, the spatial structure often takes shape within just a few hours, assembled from compact bundles of materials and a familiar team. At times, before people around could even understand what was happening, the space was already done.
The dismantling was just as fast. Within a few hours, the site was returned almost to its original state. That was the strength of fabric. The longer we worked with it, the more we saw how it opened up many ways for spatial treatment and atmospheric effect. When combined with lighting, projection, and installation, fabric becomes one of the most versatile components for temporary events. Fabric can be a thin veil of silk, a partition wall, a projection surface, a backdrop, an artwork, or a temporary room, sometimes even the entire event space itself.
