Đối was an experiential space and also the central artwork of Maze-Zô within City Tet Fest. The project drew inspiration from the familiar image of the cuốn thư and the red parallel scrolls traditionally seen during Tet. Built at an enlarged scale, the structure formed an interactive spatial experience that can be engaged with both from the outside and within. Beyond the visual reference to the scroll, Đối here also implied a dialogue with the context and festive atmosphere surrounding it. The installation employed three primary materials: welded steel mesh, reflective foil, and red note papers for writing wishes. The reflective foil interacted with changing environmental conditions. In the morning, under gentle sunlight and clear skies, it shimmered softly. As evening approached, the sunset casted vivid golden-orange reflections. At night, beneath the colorful lights of the festival and the constant movement of visitors, the installation continuously transformed in tone and visual effect. The foil was woven with calculated density to reduce wind pressure at higher levels. The higher the structure rose, the looser the weave became, descending toward the ground, the density gradually increased, with the base woven most densely to achieve optimal reflective performance. The red note papers created a strong sense of participation for visitors. Countless wishes and greetings from people of all ages were written and carefully attached within arm’s reach onto the frame. This became the key interactive element, and the final layer that completed the artwork.
