Drama Stage “Broken Puzzle”

Designed and Installed: LAM.WEAVINGSPACES
Location: HO CHI MINH CITY. VIETNAM

“Broken Puzzle” – A mini experimental play by Tra Nguyen, launched together with the introduction event of the Project Day San.

Through exchanges with the playwright and director, LAM was impressed by the author’s perspective on non-traditional theater. The existing hall had a distinctive architectural character. The space and materials evoked a familiar atmosphere, yet the structure had been treated in a creative, contemporary, and bold way. The existing architecture also influenced LAM’s design approach, including material choices and construction methods.

The main material used was a light-colored, perforated mesh fabric layered like floating clouds. The mesh fabric was suspended from above, spread across the floor, and attached to several spots on the wall structures. At the edges of the floor, multiple layers of mesh were intentionally arranged to blur the boundary. Rather than functioning solely as a stage, the setting formed an interactive spatial experience. The layered mesh suggested openness and movement, allowing the performance space to remain flexible while evoking a sense of suspension and subtle entrapment.
