The canopy created a distinctive spatial experience through the use of soft white mesh, interconnected in a geometric grid structure. The existing condition consisted of a steel frame with pre-woven nylon net panels. LAM’s proposal introduced a layered, volumetric mesh fabric to transform this framework. When illuminated, the freely curved fabric forms produced layered visual depth while modulating varying degrees of light penetration across different areas. The resulting shadows moved across the courtyard floor in an almost spontaneous rhythm. The existing nylon grid panels were secured with cable-mesh clamps to prevent displacement during interaction with the fabric volumes. From there, attention turned to form, refining each curve to balance sun protection with spatial poetry.
