The ceiling curtain system in the photo is a custom design for ELLE Decoration’s Pop Up Playground event, held in the café space of De La Sói. This system features large fabric panels, evenly stretched over wooden frames, creating gentle, flowing curves. The connection points between the fabric and the frame are meticulously crafted, allowing for interaction with natural light, which enhances the airy and spacious atmosphere.
Strategically placed transparent PVC bubbles on the fabric panels add a unique touch, creating intriguing light reflection effects as light passes through. Architecturally, this curtain system serves not just as a decorative element but also functions as a light moderator, fostering a harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Overall, this design brings a sense of softness, creating a warm and relaxing ambiance for event attendees.
“The interesting spatial effect prompted LAM to carefully select a suitable fabric that would not obscure its elegance, allowing it to resonate and create a more captivating space—not merely a fabric ceiling for sunshade. Initially, there was a practical desire to use something heavy to tension and stabilize the hanging fabric. After numerous experiments, LAM discovered a principle that was surprisingly simple to… hang water from the ceiling in this way. The ‘hanging water’ solution became an intriguing focal point for this design. Although time was short, LAM conducted thorough research to ensure the final product’s effectiveness.”
