The curtain system at the rooftop pool of Hotel Des Arts Saigon functioned as soft partitions in between the sun loungers, creating refined pockets of privacy within the open-air setting. Designed by LAM in collaboration with the architects, they were made from lightweight fabric in a gentle gradient that transitions from white to warm orange, evoking the softness of late-afternoon sunlight and fostering a relaxed, soothing atmosphere.
Considering the installation’s exposure to sun, wind, and rain, every material and hardware detail was carefully thought out. Sheer fabric was light, breathable, and quick-drying; its open weave helped reduce wind pressure at rooftop height while still ensuring adequate privacy for guests. Flexible track systems allowed curtains to glide smoothly for compact stacking or to be secured in place with locking mechanisms to maintain their form. Dual-point tie-backs anchor the panels, preventing excessive movement during strong winds. Beyond serving as spatial dividers, curtains softened the rigidity of surrounding materials such as glass, stone, and wood. They introduced a gentle rhythm to the rooftop landscape, making the elevated retreat feel warmer, calmer, and more complete.
