Moon Lamp

Moon Lamp

Designed and Installed: LAM.WEAVINGSPACES

Moon Lamp was built from layers of dó paper, forming a stable spherical structure without the need for an internal frame. The experimentation process was quite tense, as the outcome was uncertain. Only when the mold was released and the large, hollow, eggshell-thin sphere stood still did the sense of relief truly arrive. With its large yet lightweight spherical form, the intention was to achieve a certain level of translucency, creating a lighting effect similar to a full moon, unobstructed by any structural frame. The paper was cut into triangles of varying sizes, allowing for multidirectional connections, then layered onto a spherical mold. When damp paper combined with adhesive and fully dried, it formed a continuous dome-like shell that stabilized itself without any supporting structure. Both spherical and domed forms were suitable geometries for developing this system, within the limits of the load-bearing capacity of thin paper and glue.
