The highlight of the installation was the system of columns and ceiling made from curved wire mesh. The mesh panels intertwined to form large shapes that suggested tree trunks or natural forms. This arrangement created a gentle sense of movement while also opening up the space, suggesting an abstract form of nature within the restaurant interior. Lighting played an important role in emphasizing the structure of the mesh. Multicolor LED lights, shifting from blue to purple, highlighted the curved lines and created soft changes of light that varied from different viewing angles. The light not only brought attention to the mesh structure but also gave the restaurant a dreamy and lively atmosphere.
The idea for the design came from simple memories of childhood, similar to the feeling found in traditional children’s rhymes. It recalled moments after school when sudden rain arrived and children quickly picked large leaves, such as taro or banana leaves, to cover their heads while running home. From these simple imaginations of very large leaves and wide tree canopies that could provide shelter, the idea of a “giant canopy” in the space gradually formed. This image replaced earlier sketches and led to the ceiling design, creating the feeling of walking under large leaves in an imagined forest.
